Do You Know If Your Facilities Are Well Located?
Your company probably spends a significant amount of money on the various properties used for work such as offices, stores, warehouses, labs, plants, data centers, and field crew headquarters. And chances are some of these facilities need some investment because of changing business conditions, organizational/technology changes, changing customer demographics, aging facilities, or for sustainability/energy efficiency improvements.
Before you make significant re-investment in your buildings, don't you want to make sure they are in the right locations?
Opportunity Assessment
An opportunity assessment is a low cost, low risk way to identify if there are significant location opportunities for your company to pursue. This is especially applicable to field operation headquarters used by utility companies, service companies, and local distributers. An assessment will provide you with a better understanding of how well your field headquarters are located, and identify your particular opportunity areas.
Many companies are thinking beyond this year's challenges to leverage the limited capital available for their facilities and provide the most favorable business impact. Realignment of the current property portfolio is a way to extract value from underperforming assets and migrate to a more efficient configuration with lower operating costs. Those locations that are well positioned to serve the business can be brought up to the desired standard. Those not well positioned can be monetized to provide some of the funding that is required. Re-alignments can be coordinated with other company initiatives - some companies even use them as a way to drive other changes.
An opportunity assessment will:
- Identify facility consolidation opportunities that can reduce property operating costs.
- Identify territory re-alignments that save travel costs with little or no investment.
- Quantify travel times and identify gaps in coverage for operations with response time goals.
An opportunity assessment is low cost because we use readily available information. We use alternative scenarios to help you understand any issues of concern and the magnitude of potential cost/savings associated with changing your facility location. Then you are able to determine if a full location optimization analysis is warranted, and if so for what business operations/region.
Not considering facility changes (or have a home-based workforce)? Then an operation assessment might be more appropriate. That can help you optimize territories based upon established locations.
